Best of Show at Printing Industry Midwest (PIM) Star of Excellence Awards

The most awarded printer at this year’s Printing Industry Midwest (PIM) Star of Excellence Awards annual banquet held on April 25th, 2019. Thereceived the Best of Show Award for the Mercedes-Benz Stadium Book, along with five other winners as Best in Category, five Award of Recognition honors and eight Certificate of Merit Awards for other exceptional projects. Here is what the judges had to say about our Best of Show Winner, Mercedes-Benz Stadium Book.

The banquet is hosted for the Midwest Region to celebrate the commitment to quality and creativity each member brings to the industry. Members submitted projects that were judged and then honored at this sold out spring banquet to celebrate the Midwest’s finest print and individual contributors. Awards were given out throughout the night to individuals and companies for outstanding accomplishments in the print and graphic communication industry.

“We have a tremendous team,” said Jayme Wisely, President/CEO. “Extremely talented people, who produce amazing work for our clients, and it is an honor to be recognized by the industry as an organization that produces award-winning quality work.”

Hugo Boss Prize Contestants

This book features the six candidates selected for the short list for the prize from which only one will selected.

Founded in 1996, the Hugo Boss Prize is a biennial award administered by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum that honors significant achievement in contemporary art. Simone Leigh is the recipient of the Hugo Boss Prize 2018 and a solo exhibition of her work will be presented at the Guggenheim in the spring of 2019. Leigh was selected from a list of finalists by a jury of international curators and critics chaired by Nancy Spector, Artistic Director and Jennifer and David Stockman Chief Curator, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and Foundation.

DVX Magazine

The most influential design movements are re-imagined by DXV. This small version magazine was printed as marketing material, showing the latest designs in high-end bathrooms. The cover of the magazine was printed with UV ink and then coated with a spot raised UV clear coating creating the X-affect.

DXV fixtures and fittings do not merely reproduce styles from each era; rather they are inspired by historically significant designs, reinterpreting them in light of today’s aesthetic and performance demands. Each of the DXV movements includes one or two bath-fixture suites and complementary faucet collections. The portfolio also includes a collection of kitchen sinks and fittings, as well as the AT Series, a state-of-the-art smart toilet and bidet seat that perform as superbly as they look. Airbnb Office Posters

After the latest Airbnb magazine hit shelves, these two destination posters were created to hang in the San Francisco office. The Timeless Japan poster was printed on a special mirri silver foil stock, which makes the detail of the name and other elements “pop.” The Chile pepper was custom printed on an uncoated cover stock using vibrant CMYK colors.

Airbnb magazine celebrates humanity wherever it exists: across borders, time zones, languages and skin tones. They believe that travel is transformative, and key to building bridges in increasingly strained societies.

Sappi Calendars

Two custom wall calendars were produced on SAPPI stock showcasing wire loop binding and custom finishes and varnishes. The small A2 calendar is a nice easy desk reference that has a custom die cut tent for propping purposes. The large wall calendar is unique because of the different custom finishes on each page of the calendar that gives a different look, feel and viewing experience which include spot gloss varnish, metallic PMS, spot UV, grit UV, raised UV varnish, glitter UV, spot soft touch aqueous and silver tint varnish.

Thirty Tigers

Whitney Morgan and the 78’s anticipated newest country album poster “Hard Times & White Lines, was printed with a special Indigo approved UV fluorescents inks. After printing, a flocking partner created the precise registration for the flocking. In order for the flocking to stay in place, each poster was trimmed very carefully. This poster is really unique with the UV inks and flocking that create an exciting visual effect.

Whitney Morgan self-produced the album that was recorded in the Neve room, at the famed Sonic Ranch Studios in Tornillo, Texas. Of the recording, Morgan shares, “It’s not like my vision happened overnight. I’ve been chipping away at it forever. It’s slowly evolving and it’s going in a little bit different direction. It’s not so straightforward anymore. This record definitely has a wider path, it’s broader, but it still sounds like a Whitney Morgan record.”

The Whitey Morgan “Hard Times and White Lines” album is now available for purchase at most major retailers.

Velvet Underground

Lou Reed, John Cale, Sterling Morrison and Moe Tucker were all at the heart of New York’s music scene, creating a revolution in music and known as the Velvet Underground. This book gives readers an inside look of New York’s underground music scene during the 1960’s, where people transgressed the norm and pushed the limits. The Velvet Underground became a cultural phenomenon through the years, one that continues to fascinate listeners across the globe. This page-turner book includes never before seen photographs, letters, testimonials, posters and poetry.

The hard cover and pages of photos are printed on uncoated paper, with the exception of a few pages, which give a glossy look and feel. For simplicity, several pages include black and white photography. This book definitely keeps readers intrigued as they are taken on a historical journey through the revolution of the Velvet Underground.

Chicago 1968

Chicago 1968 represents, perhaps as no other moment in American history, the flashpoint of cultural resistance to a militarized world out of control. In the summer of 1968, still reeling from the assassinations of Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy only months earlier, thousands of young people descended on the Democratic National Convention to show their opposition to the Vietnam War and their desire for a Peace platform.

This book gathers Terry Southern’s stories, Michael Copper’s convention portfolio, magazine insider memos, and prose from several other literary legends into a brisk retrospective of a surreal week.

This beautiful, custom, hard covered, black and white book features 131 pages of history told through stories and images. The unique design was created with two hits of black with a warm grey 6 and flood aqueous coating. The book was also showcased at the Chicago and New York book fairs.

Sono’s Magazine

Sonos Catalog puts the latest Sonos Home Sound Systems on display and creatively shows the environments that Sonos is found in. From build-from-scratch houses in Joshua Tree, to 1920’s Spanish-style homes in Los Angeles, Sonos is a useful sound system that fits many needs.

This unique soft-covered, saddled stitched catalog doesn’t just advertise a musical piece that projects sound, the publication shows much more. It shows the beauty of music, how it brings humans together and how it unites and creates experiences. The uncoated sheets and various colored text pages help bring this print piece to life.

The catalog incorporates personal interviews with creative individuals who truly appreciate art, space and sound. Alison and Jay are creators of Wonder Valley, a creative studio and homewares brand that started with signature olive oil. Giles, son of legendary Beatles producer, is a Sound Experience Leader at Sonos, he brings together the science and emotion of sound to ensure the best listening experience possible. Musician, Andrew and designer, Katherine are transplants from New York who are falling in love with their new lifestyle in Los Angeles. Lastly, Music Director, Jason, is featured in his quaint craftsman home in Seattle. Each interview brings inspiration to create personal environments.

Sonos Catalog is created and designed by Imprint Projects, a post-advertising creative agency.  Their mission is to replace advertising with cultural production and dialogue.

Revere Auctions is a premier auction house located at International Market Square in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Being one of Minnesota’s premier fine art and antiques auction houses, it attracts a broad base of collectors, designers, museum professionals, dealers and many more. This stunning Look Book features the paintings and sculptures of old masters, 19th century oils and 20th century sculptures that were available at the March 2018 auction.

The Look Book showcases pages of vibrate colors representing the fine art and sculptures the auction offered. The most unique aspect of the book is the simple, white uncoated cover that is wrapped around white coated pages.
